Peter Nwachukwu husband of the late Gospel Singer Osinachi has been sentenced to death by hanging, by the high court of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Wuse Zone II, Abuja. Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme delivered the ruling on Monday, April 28th, 2025 after finding Nwachukwu guilty of culpable homicide, which led to the death of his wife on April 8th, 2022, Nwachukwu was first arraign on June 3rd, 2022 by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, (OAGF) on behalf of the federal government, he faced the 23 counts charge, covering culpable homicide punishable by death, spouse, battery, cruelty to children, and criminal intimidation among others. During the trial, the prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two of the couple’s children who appeared as the 4th and 5th prosecution witnesses.
A total of 25 documents were also tender in the courts to support the case, and his defense Nwachukwu testified personally and called for other witnesses presenting four exhibits to back his claims. Before sentencing Nwachukwu lawyer Reginald Nwali beg the court for leniency.
However, the prosecuting counsel was represented by Mrs. Aderonke Imana, urged the court to uphold the law without compromise.
Justice Nwosu after sentencing Nwachuku to death by hanging on count one. He also received two years imprisonment each on count, 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18. For count 10, it was under six months imprisonment and three years imprisonment in count 11.
Additionally, the court imposed finds of N500,000 and N200,000 on counts 6 and 7 respectively.
