The Lagos state High sitting at Tafa-Balewa Square as sentence a driver of the Lagos State Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Driver Andrew Nice Ominikoron to death by hanging for killing a 22-year-old fashioned designer – Bamise Ayanwola. The trial Judge, Justice Sherifat Sonaike gave the verdict on Friday, May 2nd, 2025. It was confirmed by reliable news source (Radio Nigeria) report that the Lagos State Government had prosecute Ominikoron for counts charges of conspiracy murder and two kind of rape.
The prosecutor alleged that on November 25th 2021 Ominikoron sexually assaulted 29-year-old woman, Nneka Mary Jane in Lagos. He was also accused of conspiring with two others who are still at large to sexually assault a 22-year-old passenger Oluwabamise before murdering her.
In the course of the trial, multiple witnesses including the surviving victims, law enforcement officers, medical personnel, and forensic experts made their testimony. Also the prosecutor tendered physical and documentary evidence, including call logs, medical examination reports and CCTV footage linking Ominikoron to the crimes.
While some appreciated the judgment and Nigeria judicial system, others says it is long overdue.
