Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has announced the statewide ban on Tuesday on the sale of alcoholic beverages, the governor who announced the ban attributed it to rising crime and anti-social vice in Maiduguri the state capital, and it to the involvement of military Capital and other security forces. Governor Zulum announces the ban during the inauguration of constituted committee tasked with the revocation of illegal hotels, brothels, shanties and criminal hideout, and curbing the menace of anti-social vices.
The event which took place at the council chambers of the government House Maiduguri. Governor Zulum accused both former and serving security personnel of condoling and promoting criminal behavior, radicalism, prostitution, and other vices – which he said have exerbated terrorism trait across the state. He explained that the ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol was a response to the increasing prevalence of cultism and rival gang clashes, prostitution drug abuse, thuggery and thief incident that have resulted in significant lust of lives and properties.
In line with the renewed mandate, the Governor emphasized the need to rid Maiduguri and its surroundings of criminal element and social decay!
